Why do people suggest corals get placed in low flow and light to recover?

People always suggest putting a stressed coral in lower light or lower flow it seems why is that?

because high light/flow can be stressful, and part of helping a coral recover is NOT stressing it out

You're more likely to injure coral by over lighting or over gassing your flow. Putting your coral into a low energy environment allows the coral to settle down from its typical craziness, especially if the coral isn't supposed to have high light or flow.
