Rotary drum filters have been quite the rage for pond, aquaculture and FW breeders for a number of years now.
Please do not compare them to filter rollers. They function similarly, but are different in a number of ways.
They have HUGE pros [honestly the best mechanical filtration available]-
1. They remove wastes before they have a chance to break down
2. The filter is self-cleaning
3. Waste is removed every 15-25 minutes
4. Micron rating can be adjusted from 10-200 microns
Now I assume the cons for saltwater application is-
1. Loss of saltwater when cleaning cycle is activated
2. Sprayers may get clogged with saltwater
3. Metals involved may not be saltwater friendly
4. Very large, need a dedicated filtration room or basement
But if those 3 cons are fixed, this can easily be downsized for the average SW/FW hobbyist.
My question is why hasn't anyone done it?
