Why I don't do Craigslist

So I posted an add selling a 8 inch duresa clam, and a 7 head frogspawn we agreed on 80$ on clam (10$ and inch) and 40 for frogspawn. He drives over and sees my tank, decides to buy more stuff also. I have 2 polyps of utter chaos, the frogspawn and clam. He then hands me 35$, I tell him I need 150, he then says the "random zoas" I'm giving him sell for 5$ for two polyps and that I'm ripping him off and that we agreed on 35$. Id pay 15$ per polyp for utter chaos any day.

That's the way people are around here also. I stopped selling locally besides people I know really well. I couldn't give away ultimate chaos for $50 pp.

I like to browse craigslist alot, just to laugh at all the peoples post's and prices. Seen someone tryin to sell a nuclear green for like 50 a polyp, I just laughed. There are also lots of deals on CL though. I certainly wouldnt sell corals on there unles I was getting out of the hobby though.

I agree 100%, I only meet people at busy stores, like walmart/kmart places like that, and I usually got someone with me.

I don't understand some people. They just don't belong in the hobby. It's not like your prices were insane or anything, actually extremely well priced. I made a thread awhile back and a bunch of people had similar accounts of what you had. A guy agreed to pay 8p for some coral amd came and was like "oh I only have 10 in my wallet, will that work?" Lol they are just idiots

Just did another deal. Some zoas nothing special. We agree on 150$ he says I promised him more corals, after waiting 1.5 hours at the fish store he made me meet him at. I ended up getting 140$ and can't complain.

our local reef community is small, our club is small but there is enough business to sustain three LFS's. i just ask around to some of the other local reefers so that i can figure out if they are legit or not. avoided some bad people.

folks are pretty cool around here.. we mostly trade/give each other stuff.. but then again we don't have crap for LFS's around.. so we hook each other up..

Nice! That's what I hunt for. Cracked HOB Calcium reactors. Looks real air tight. Where do you put the CO2? And that outlet looks like it puts out quite a trickle!



As for the OP:

I know!!! People are so cheap on CL it isn't even worth posting. I met a few solid people who I frequently trade and do maintenance for but I've weeded out the $3 cheese balls simply because I don't own anything in that price range. I found a good way to keep the ripper-offers out is to include a disclaimer like this:
*warning, these creatures are expensive and require specialized care. Do not waste your money if you do not have the means to keep them, including income*

This usually scares the people away who want freebies or extreme discounts. Real reefers will know you mean business and give you the respect you seek, then after a while you have a good set of phone numbers to text when you have corals to sell or trade up.

Random Or assorted corals at pet stores really do suck for the high end market too. Sometimes I'll see some amazing zoa frags going for $2pp and the same one online for $WOW! That's where you get the people with the idea that all zoos are assorted. Only in the wrong hands :)

There is an undisclosed LFS that sells all acan lords for $19.99 because they don't know what they are called, even though I told them...ya know those are $100 bucks on jibberishnamecoralstore.com?


These places don't have passion like we do...they won't pay for the stuff that has names and neither will their followers. Let them keep their hang on filters and t12 lighting. Lol. No skin off my leather
