As with most corals color can depend on lighting and water quality. Here are some pics at different times to show you how the color can vary. Some are in the same tank.

None the less, it's a BEAUTIFUL coral.

High nutrients, High Light, High Flow should produce the bluer look. lighting should be 20k plus actinics.

****, very tempting Victor... nice pictures btw.

Thanks! BTW it's Gadgets.

Here is an actinic pic of my My Miami colony. Bought it as a 1 eye frag from WWC 11/09. Fragged it once to trade for a 1 eye frag of Crazy Fox Rainbow. Actinics with cheapo digi camera.

I've seen a few different frags of the my miami chalice and some colonies and have never been that impressed by it (It's a nice chalice, but I know of better that you can get for way cheaper). That said, coral selection is all about taste and If you really do like it, wait another year or so......With the flood of chalices on the market right now and the fact that it is a fast grower (like the MH or bubble gum) you should be able to get a frag for substantially cheaper. I think the first frag sold for $1500, but now you can get it for like $500. Wait another year and you could probably get it for under $300--especially if the economy continues to suffer.

cheers,
Darren

Amazing picture Gadgets! Can you expand more on the High nutrients, High light, High flow? like how much of those things?

I have the "Not My Miami" aka "Nizmo's watermelon chalice" that has the same coloring. Its not as nice as the My Miami, but I didn't pay $1500 for it either. I can't see spending so much on a tiny frag but if you like it that much and you've got the cash, why not. I think its only as rare as it is because of the price tag, especially since I've heard its a pretty good grower.

here's a pic of the My Miami next to a Not My Miami. Coloration is really similar, and the NMM is a very nice chalice. But the MM does just sort of "pop" that much more
