A HOB skimmer can do the trick. I use a Reef Octopus BH2000. An intank skimmer can work as well like the Tunze Comline DOC DC Protein Skimmer 9012. You can run an AquaClear HOB filter as well with mechanical filtration and run carbon or use a canister filter of some sort. Both will need to be cleaned regularly to keep detriutus from building up in them. This sort of tank may require more frequent water changes to make up for compromises in filtration. Growing display Macro Algae in the tank with the nems could help with nutrient export and add variety to the display.
