Wifi Thermometer Recommendations

I have a dinky floating mercury thermometer in my tank. It's fine, but it's obviously not great for making observations when I'm not around.

Does anyone know of a decent wifi-enabled thermometer that speaks MQTT, or which could be configured to do so? Or if not, does anyone have recommendations for a saltwater-compatible thermometer sensor that can be read via ESP32? (Most of the sensors that I've found on Adafruit are distinctly unsuitable for saltwater, and though I suppose I could just coat them in plastic, that seems janky.)

Is this a problem that Inkbird has already solved?

Why invent the wheel again? Unless you have other things you have engineered to work with it.

I'd say just you the inkbird and have it control the heaters as well.

I myself use the inkbird with the neptune apex for double security.

No, you would need to use their proprietary app.

you can try the neptune temperature probe, but I have no idea if that can be used by a 3rd party system.

This is what I do. I use aqualogic controllers on my systems.

that one seems to require the proprietary hub, and only works with consumer friendly IOT Frontends at best, not what OP is looking for, and not different from inkbird

The hub is only $20-25 and doesn't require a subscription. These thermometers were almost spot on with my PRT thermometer and have the ability to be recalibrated via the app. They also use AA batteries instead of some oddball disposable lithium battery.

Oh nice their hub provides you with an API for those two supports. Definitely should work for what OP is looking for, nice call

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I generally prefer building over buying, and based on the above commentary, I think that's what I'll do: ESP32 + DS18B20 + MQTT + some sort of waterproofing. (And a liquid crystal thermometer sticker, of course.) I'll post pics and code when I'm done.
