I see this pretty large girl at my local Petco. And I’ve been wanting one for so long. I was looking for a male though. Is it guranteed for them to turn into a male? @Slocke

Almost certainly. They are sequential hemaphrodites, meaning they start life as females and can turn male. In the wild this is usually brought on by social cues but in tanks this usually happens over time and duskies usually turn around 3” I’d say

Absolutely, I added a female into a display at the LFS a few months ago and her colours have started to change, the tail is greener than it used to be. The only reason Halichoeres won’t transition is if they’re “paired” and you have a male of the same species already in the system or if you have a very closely related species that’s already male (such as a male Leucoxanthus mixed with a female Chrysus).
