I accidentally smacked one of my new hammer’s heads with a hose while vacuuming up detritus 3 days ago. It immediately retreated and then showed signs of polyp bailout. The other head still looks good. Does anyone think this will regrow? My 46g AIO lagoon tank was set up in Feb of this year and parameters are below. I’ve been fighting diatoms off and on because of the low nutrients. So far I’ve only had one colony of zoas die out of 4 zoas. I also have another hammer and one torch doing great. Lighting is XR15 set to LPS/soft in MXM with red set down to 30% to help with the diatoms.

NH3 0, NO2 0, NO3 0, PO4 0.0, salt 35 ppt, cal 447, alk 7.3, mg 1290, pH 7.8-8.1 during 24h, temp 77-78, ORP 200-220

What is your flow in that tank? It seems low to me. Also, your nutrients are pretty low for your tank.

So I got two MP10s on either side of the tank and the video was pretty early in the morning before they really started ramping. Granted the hammers are both in the center.

Yes, I think it does have the potential if it's in right conditions. You have 0 nutrients, and low magnesium. So in those conditions, no.
Yeah, point well taken on the low Mg. I use Red Sea blue salt because my LFS uses and recommended that. Any tips on dosing? I have All for Reef but it was raising the Cal too much in addition to the Mg, so I backed off.

An update on this after several months: The hammer did survive, but that head never came back. I was able to break it off carefully. It has since split into two new heads, which can be seen from the top view below at night with the polyps receded. I did move to much higher flow and boosted Mg up to 1300. I’m still battling low nutrients though. Anyways thanks for all the advice!!
