I have a 40g AIO im trying to add a sump to. It has been running for a few years now and i cant drill holes in it to add a sump. Will i have any issues if i put the sump above my tank? I built a 10 gallon sump/fuge and have it drilled towards the top to accept a 1in pvc pipe for overflow. I believe a 1in pvc can flow 600gph without any pressure added. i also have a 550gph pump that i will put in my display to run to the sump. Being how this will be my first sump i want to make sure im not overlooking anything. please refer to my highly detailed schematics lol. Also where should i put the 550gph pump and where should i run my 1in pvc overflow to? in the aio's filter department or the display itself?

Should work. Pump in display return to display. Just make sure its high enough over the tank to drain properly. Also I dont know what pump you are actually using see if you can find something that is 200-300 gph after head pressure. You may or may not get a head/flow chart with the pump or be able to find it online. You can also calculate it with a couple buckets by timing how long it takes to move a gallon from one bucket to the other at different heights above the pump. I am guessing you are trying to incorporate a fuge maybe a skimmer, either way 4-6x flow is more than enough too much and its less effective.
