Winter sun

So the winter sun was hitting the side of my tank just right and I’m having an algae explosion on the glass. It’s made its way into the sump hoses. The snails, and the crabs and the pods help. But they don’t eliminate it. I have to manually scrape it off weekly. It has invaded my sump hoses now. I need advice on how to get rid of this issue.. I do have Kenya trees and zoas. Just iffy on what remedy works. The tank has since been blocked off from the sun exposure.

I don't think this is an emergency, that's generally reserved for inhabitants dying or tanks crashing :)

Some tips to try, good that you've already eliminated the sun exposure, but I will note that my display has plenty of direct sunlight daily to no ill effect:

• reduce your nitrates and phosphates
  • water change
  • protein skimmer
  • algae turf scrubber
  • feed less

Will the algae fix harm the coral?

no, it does not harm coral if you dose it as instructed on the bottle. I have used it in the past to control bubble algae. It will kill any macroalgae you have, though (chaeto, caulerpa, etc)

I would advise taking the slow and steady approach and avoid Algaecide before trying any other options. More frequent water changes to bring down your numbers, check your parameters regularly, beef up your clean up crew if needed. What's your light schedule, do you have them on timers?
