Is this a good buy or should I look elsewhere/ create my own setup. I have nano tanks now and doing great. I was looking at the 50g lagoon innovative marine has but these are on sale and within budget for a larger set up

Probably depends on your situation; I personally find great enjoyment in making them myself. But buying a premade one would save a lot of hassle, time, and money in your case.

You’re looking at another 2k to outfit a tank that size coming from a nano not much you have already will cross over for that setup. Also last I checked they want around $400 for shipping. I purchased a 50 lagoon aio from them about 5 years ago and it was right around $800 which included shipping. That same tank on sale is close to $1600 now. Crazy how much they’ve gone up.

Yeah I have a separate equipment budget and then a live stock budget. Mainly curios as to if I can make my own set up to beat or match that quality or price.

The price difference between the 50 lagoon and that tank seems like a no brainer

Just not familiar with making my own and then I wondered if i could match the quality and price for what that costs

DIY is the way to go if you want things exactly the way you want if you have the skills and patience. Custom tanks aren't cheap tho so I'm not sure if DIY is cheaper or just has better options.

I recently repurposed a reefer 300 sump and stand and have a new 40g breeder. $75 for the tank on sale and $80 for a hob overflow. I already had all the gear.

My 2cents is if the setup meets your needs and you like the style, it would be worth it.
Food for thought, compare options and decide if it has the features you want. For example, if I were evaluating for myself:
The brand is reputable, and the size isn't bad if it fits your space. While I prefer less modern look of the furniture, it does look good so long as it fits the rest of your room. The sump is built with filter bags (or bagless) in mind, which is fine if that is what you want. Installing a rollermat for example wouldn't be possible/trivial. Finally, if you enjoy canopies, well.. doesn't have one. Nothing is a dealbreaker, but there are other options out there.
