Would this light work on a bta prop tank im thinking a 50 or 40 gallon tub ?

It would be best to get a T5 fixture as this is a T8 and you will have trouble finding bulbs in this size now days.
 
I agree with Ed but I am sure you could make it work.It may be hard to find good quality bulbs and they could be costly.Maybe even more than the fixture itself.
