Hey everyone!
Having some issues with aggression in my tank over the past few days! My monsoon fairy wrasse has suddenly started attacking my pair of clowns. They have lived together in the tank for almost six months now with no problems. I noticed the wrasse flash at a clown a couple weeks ago but just put it down to a one off and not an issue. However after moving my tank there has now been major fighting. The wrasse herds and pins the clowns into the corner and then does charges at them while flashing. He hasn't shown any interest in any of the other fish
in the tank. In the past day i’ve noticed one of the clowns has started to nip back at the wrasse, resulting in the wrasse having a shredded tail now. Even though he’s now getting injured by instigating these attacks he still won’t stop! I’m planning on getting an acclimation box to separate him in for a while until i can find a better solution. But if anyone knows any way to stop this or for the cause of the sudden change in behaviour that would be great!

Thank you!

Did you rearrange your rock with the move abd they are now re-establishing territory? Im not familiar with the monsoon wrasse but it is in the naoke’s complex which can be aggressive.

Yes the rock work is in slightly different places! I tried to put everything back the same but i’m sure its not identical to how it was.

200l or 53 gallons.
A 2 foot cube is definitely too small for a Monsoon Fairy. You’ll probably find it’s stressing out due to the small space - I’ve had naokoae (a similar species) in 4 foot tanks and they use that whole space up. I currently have a Naoko in a 5 foot 700l tank (180G) and he’s still shy as I added him last week, but when he wants to he will use up 3/4 of the tank.

Oh dang really, that’s unfortunate! The tanks 3ft in length. I did do research before buying but the australian guides must be a different standard to other countries as everywhere says my tank size was fine, some sites even say as small as 75l. Is my only option to rehome it? I’m pretty attached so that would be a really disappointing outcome.
