Wrasse bedtime?

Just wonder what time your wrasse goes to bed if you have one that goes under the sand at night. I have a melanurus and he goes to bed around 5 to 6 pm everyday. Im not sure what time he gets up because when I come to look at the tank in the morning its already around 10 am and hes always out. It just seems a little early for bedtime to me lol.

I agree. My Blue Head disappears a few hours earlier than my Lunar, but nothing like 5-6 p.m. lol

My moyers leopard wrasse goes to bed about four hours before lights off, very strange.

Mine disappears between 7-8 pm. Lights go out at 9pm. I still don't know where in the tank he sleeps (nine months of having him).

Yellow Coris is in the sand at 5 pm, the other sand dwellers are in around 8 or 9. The yellow frequently misses feedings, but I have so many pods he never is hungry.

Mine will go to bed at 8 pm, no matter what the lighting schedule is. Goes all the way into the sand, and I can even see it's belly through the glass on the bottom.

ok im just a little worried today, its already 2:15pm and my wrasse is still not up. i checked the floor and no sign of jumping. do they just sleep in late some days?

How long have you had him? The first one I ever bought years ago (a tiny bright yellow one), ‘vanished’ after about 2-3 weeks. And he STAYED ‘vanished’ for about 2 weeks. To the point that I had completely given up and figured the cleanup crew had made a skeleton out of him. Then I walked past the tank one day, there he was, bright yellow and swimming around just fine.

Sounds like you have a teenager.

I'm only a month in with owning my first wrasse that sleeps in sand. About 3 weeks into QT, he started going to bed around 6-7pm (about 1-2 hours before lights out ). Since moving him to DT on Friday, he has been disappearing right after the whites turn off and only blues are on, around 9pm.

Googled this topic because I got my first wrasse, a yellow coris, who disappears into the sand everyday by 4:30pm. I usually feed at 11am and 5pm, so he generally misses dinner. Sounds like its kind of normal behavior… good to know.

My wrasses dive into the sand in the same order every night starting at 8:50pm 1. Biocellatus 2. Black leopard 3. Ear muff 4. Melanurus 5. Radiant. It’s cool to watch.

My blue star leopard wrasse wakes up at 7am goes to bed at 5pm like clock work my yellow coris wrasse that is nipping at my corals and I hate took about a week then he started staying up all day ....wish my blue star would stay out more

Melanurus for me. He goes to bed around 9/10 pm. Wakes up around 9/10 am. Around the same time I have dusk to dawn set.

My silver bellied wrasse doesnt sleep until about 8pm an hour after the lights go off I've moved this fish to 4 different tanks within the last 3 years and each time he would never even panic and nose dive into the sand. Its always a calm slow swim down then he'll look around and stop and just disappear he'll be out in about an hour or so. I think I've got a part wrasse part dophin cos he always sticks his head out of the water and starts spitting, Whenever I'm dropping in food

I have always had the same issue with almost every wrasse as I prefer to feed later in the evening. You can easily adjust their sleep times though with the use of food.

Generally you can guestimate their sleep time within 10 min accuracy if you spend enough time around the tank. Feed the tank 1/3 of the amount of food you normally would just before his normal sleep time. The competition for food and the meal itself should keep him up 15 - 20 min longer than normal. Feed another 1/3 after 15 min or so and then the last 1/3 after that. You have just added close to an hour. Repeat every day while gradually making the feed times later and you will have a wrasse that stays up with the rest of the fish until lights out.

A year late is better then never lol. Anyway it seems that since the last post I made, he has moved his bedtime up till around 7:30pm everynight.
