Wrasse/shrimp question

So one of my favorite critters was my skunk shrimp. I went on vacation and came back to him being MIA. I added my wrasses a little over a month ago. So could he have just died of old age or is it likely it was a wrasse? The shrimp was large and I had him for about 2 years.

Orange shoulder
Exquisite
Royal

I don't want to get more shrimp if ther will be fish food

Highly doubt it was your wrasses. Cleaner shrimp are especially unlikely to be eaten but those wrasse likely wouldn't eat one anyway of any size.

Agreed, fairy and flasher wrasses aren't taking down a 2yr old skunk cleaner shrimp.

Any water changes recently? Many can be pretty intolerant of swings in temp and water parameters even if a "good" swing.

I do water changed every 2 weeks. Parameters are always exact. He was there a week after last water chsnge, I was gone a week, came back and he's not there.

I've got ruby red headed wrasse and she ate 3 skunks. Some wrasses will definitely take a liking to shrimp. She is however 5 inches and the skunks were large. Just my experiences.

My fairies are 3" max. That shrimp had to be 2+". You think they'd try that?

Maybe not. Just didn't want you to assume that fairy wrasses wouldn't eat shrimp. No not all will but like all fish in our reefs that it goes with a fish by fish experience. Had a foxface that got a taste for acans. He ended up eating 3 rainbow mini colonies of 10+ heads. That got expensive before I caught him red handed. Lol. Obviously he went to a better home.

Yes some wrasse will most definitely enjoy a shrimp but the ones listed are very small in comparison to cleaners. It is also less likely when the shrimp is in the tank before the wrasse. A molt gone wrong is a big cause of death in otherwise healthy looking shrimp. That's how I lost one of mine. Many reasons for this to occure.

Foxfaces can go rogue for sure.

However, to have a fairy wrasse go after cleaner shrimp and a foxface go that crazy for coral, sounds like you need to feed your fish more.

Isn't 2 years old a decent age for shrimp? Im with the others in that I highly doubt it was the wrasses. I have a Cf Cyanopleaura and he's never bothered skunks or peppermints, now ghost shrimp are fair game.

I'm not hear to steal the op post. But 3 cubes of mysis a day for 8 fish I assume is more than plenty to feed. Maybe I'm mistaken.

That's more than plenty IMO Depending on fish size. But that's also the crazy part, what works for someone may not work for you. Each fish has its own unique personality.

Might be variety your missing not quantity

Exactly. And in this hobby when people start assuming things is when something bad happens.

How many feedings though, most reef fish 'want' several small feedings rather than one or two larger ones.

Nori sheet for tangs also. The ruby head also eats it. Along with the clowns. Nothing is this hobby is 100% certain when it comes to fish and corals. Lol.

While it's true that nothing is 100% certain, more often than not there are underlying reasons for any aberrations in behavior.

Still with what the OP posted and the fish he listed, the chances are very slim. I think my skunk could have taken down most of what I have if it wanted to, those aren't the smallest of shrimp compared to some of the others.
