WTB Overflow Caps

I would like to cap my overflow to a frag tank with a 3D Printed screen. Would like the screen size to be 3/8”. I’m only trying to keep fish/snails going down the pipes.

Needs to be able to soak in an acid bath overnight to clean without breaking down.

I currently am using them and they are too restrictive. They narrow the hole down drastically by nearly 1/2”

do you want me to use the measurements in your mock up or the measurement in your original picture? the outer diameter of the pipe in the pic looks 2-3/4" (~70mm) and your mock up shows 2-7/8" (~73mm). 3mm difference is loose vs snug fit

I think a hair over will be better. Maybe 2-13/16th giving it a mm or so on each side for wiggle room.

2-7/8" (73mm) inner diameter

1.5mm outer ring thickness
1mm ribs
3/8" (9.525mm) total height

Let me know if you want to make any changes. 1mm ribs make it more mesh like and increases flow. If you want something more robust, we can bump it up. And as mentioned before, let me know if you want to go with 73mm fit or 70mm fit. If you want a looser fit, I recommend increasing the height to something like 25mm so that the cap doesn't just pop off.

I just noticed the thickness of your original PVC. I think something like this would look better - match the thickness just on the rim. Same recommendation on increasing the height. PETG is very light weight so you can't count on the weight to keep it down

Yes I recommend increasing the height. I saw a PVC bend in your picture. How much space do you have for height?

I run the overflow at about a 45* angle so nearly half the pipe is out of the water. I have found this is the most silent orientation. The tanks were pre owned and already drilled near the top of the tank.

The total depth could easily fit 5/8” or 3/4”. 1” may stick past to collar of the fitting.

ok good to know. If you're ok with it, let's go with 3/4" for depth and I'll change the diameter to 72mm
