WWC Corals raised fish free?

I QT everything that goes in my display tank that has the possibility of carrying tomonts, including coral frags that could potentially be carrying them on the plugs.

That said, if corals are coming from a verified fish-free environment, tomonts wouldn't be a concern and a 2-week QT period would be enough for observation of other possible pests.

Does anyone know if WWC corals or any other suppliers come from fish-free environments? I couldn't find anything that said this specifically on the WWC website.

(I snagged a bunch of $5-$10 corals + some wishlist ones from WWC's recent live sale.)

I cannot comment on wwc specifically, but many corals farms do have fish in the growing tanks to keep algae down and to provide nutrients.

Just watched a wwc coral farm video tour on YouTube and I do see some fish in the tanks.

Not sure about all of their tanks but I’ve been to the farm several times and I’ve always seen fish in the grow out tanks.

I've been to their store, and there are fish in the showroom tanks (that they sell from); and as someone else mentioned, I'm almost certain I've seen fish in their farm-tanks, in their videos. Even Tidal Garden videos as well. I believe it is the norm.

Yeah it makes sense since fish and their waste are a part of a healthy ecosystem. My tank is fish-disease free and I've got very happy, healthy Biota fish so I want to make sure to keep it that way.

Quarantining everything capable of carrying tomonts for the full period is really the only sure-fire way to go.

I also like to QT all new arrivals including corals, hermits, shrimp, snails, etc. When I first started doing this, I was going 60 other 70+ days out of an abidance of cation. However, I've since learned from @Jay Hemdal and some of the other experts in fish diseases that 45 days fallow should be sufficient to starve out any fish parasites on frag plugs. Certainly, longer is likely safer, but I no longer believe that you have to go 70+ days.

Yep, they seem like far and away the best option! I've got all my fish for my display tank and that tank is 100% disease free. I'm currently working on adding corals to that tank and my main concern is any tomonts traveling in from inverts or frags.

There are some future fish I am considering to add to my frag tank once I'm done using it to QT frags for my display tank, and I would either get strictly Biota or Dr. Reef for any fish. My frag QT tank is a little EVO 13.5 gallon on my kitchen island and I'd love a flaming prawn goby/candy cane pistol in there someday. It's my happy place for morning coffee.

so when you order from Dr Reef -- do you still put them in a QT tank (no meds) to observe before they go into DT or do you go straight DT from Dr Reef?

I acclimate and in they go. If I think there may be aggression or they are small, they go in an acclimation box for a few days, Never had an issue with Dr Reef, Biota or ORA.

Hi Lin, thank you for joining in our livesale!!!! Hopefully you were able to snag some sweet goodies . To answer your question, yes. We have fish in every system that we sell out of. That being said, the fish that we have in these tanks have pretty much been there for many years. We rarely ever add fish to the coral tanks in our farm. Even though the likelihood of something being passed on a frag from us is extremely slim, it does not hurt to quarantine!

That is correct Randy! We keep tangs pretty much in all of our farm tanks for algae control and for some added No3 and PO4, so that the water is not stripped too clean. All fish that go into our reef systems are quarantined in advance as well . Thanks,
