I posted this in the equipment forum but wanted to get the rep's attention and insight on it. I tried to PM someone from CoralVue but couldn't. If anyone from the company sees this, you're attention is appreciated.

I'm setting up my 225gal tank. 72"L x 30"H x 24"W. I'm intending to keep high flow coral. My question is, without getting too specific, are two XF280's complete overkill? I want to oversize the pumps to keep them running low and quiet. However, I'm not sure if the XF280's are still way to powerful to consider.

Anyone with experience with the XF250 or XF280, please chime in! Thanks.

P.S. I contacted Maxspect directly. We will wait and see what they say.

Are you only going to be running the gyres? I've got two 250s on an 8' tank and I couldn't go past 50% them on without blowing my torches out of the water. They are supplemented by two Tunze 6105s but they are more for randomized flow and they are running about 50% also. I think you could get away easy with the 250s but you'd have to run them at a high percentage, which is the only time the make any noise. Under 60% they are silent.
