Looking for some care advice.Seen a pair at LFS. Man I was tempted. But need to do research. What I read didn't seem Like they live longer than a month.

I had a client with a pr for almost 2yrs. They were in a crowded reef. The owner fed the tank like crazy.

Care is the same as a seahorse.
They pretty much only eat pods. Their tanks should be kept species specific. I would recommend 50 gallons dt with a 50 gallon or larger sump. More area to cultivate pods the better. Sump really can be live rock, cheato, return.

Ive never kept this species.
But kept Microphis retzi, a freshwater species. Where i cultivated scuds(freshwater pods),

They will only eat LIVE food.

It may be true that the freshwater pipefish needs live food, but I have seen firsthand that that is not true for the yellow banded pipefish.

I have a 55gal with one very old clown fish in it.I can see pods all over the place. But I also have large neon green mushrooms,10in around. and some large frogspawn coral.Don't know if these would sting or eat them?I could also add a tisbe pod culture?

i've tried and won't buy them again. Didn't last more than few days.

Man if a scoly can get one it won't stand a chance with my shrooms.Plus keeping them alive in Qt for a month or so might be impossible. This fish should be on the (Do Not Import List).

I had my yellow multi banded pipe fish for about 3 years in my 50 gallon.
While it did hunt for pods all day ( I added tisbe pods every other month), it would also eat mysis and frozen brine.

I lost it 2-3 days after adding emerald crabs for bubble algae.

Never tried Chloroquine P. Is that like the old Quinine treatment?.If I use cupramine it will kill any pods I add.Feeding them properly in QT might be impossible.I'm not sure I'm going to take a chance with them.

@PaulB is almost a “pipefish master” he has kept many varieties of pipefish together and had success.

I did. They eat only copepods for long time so o was growing them and was reseeding the tank once a day. Then eventually they switched to frozen. To seed the tank with copepods I would take a bottle with copepods, lower it in the tank opening up until it fills with aquarium water and there is no air on top, and then let it sink. It lands on the side and then copepods closely crawl out and have a chance to hide before they get eaten or drained from the tank.
