Hello all, I was wondering if I could add a Yellow Coral Goby to my tank Saltwater Aquarium Fish for Marine Aquariums: Clown Goby, Yellow.

Is coral a must for this fish? I don't have any.

The current in habitants in my 29g tank are.
Two Clownfish
One Springeri Damsel
One Pajama Cardinal
One Orchid Dottyback
One Red Head Goby.

If not I my fiancee wants a Mandarin Dragonet. If possibly could I have both?

Just my personal opinion but I would say your full up on fish for a 29. Also just my opinion but definitely not the tank for a Mandarin, especially with the fish you have in there now. Way to much competition for copepods. To many fish and those Damsels are gonna get aggressive, territorial as they are.

To answer your question no it does not need coral to live. They have been know to irritate sps because they lay their eggs on sps and may nip at some corals. But most people never have issues. Passive community fish with a small bioload for your system :)

Coral isnt a must and if you really want to then you could add a clown goby. Its not necessarily that you would have too many fish but im just worried the little guy would be picked on by the damsel but thats not always the case... im with nanareefer for sure, no mandarin. Everyone always gets attracted to their beautiful colors but the poor little guys starve most of the time because people dont realize they have to have a tank specifically set up for one with lots of copepods

Thank's for the replies. I gave it some thought and I might be getting the yellow coral goby for my second tank, a 10g tank that is currently fishless. That or a few Barnacle Blenny.

Later this year I'll be setting up a second 29g tank and rehoming my Pajama Cardinal with more of his kind. I worry about him a bit, as NanaReefer said, Damsel's get territorial and it seems he's the only one taking the heat (the clowns and the dottyback bully the damsel, but leave the Cardinal and Goby alone for the most part).
