Yellow coris wrasse looking thin?

So ive had this coris wrasse in my dt since the beginning of this month and in qt for a month prior. And he seemed to be doing great.

Now looking at him I feel like he is so thin. When you catch a straight in profile hes like paper thin. I watch him eat so assumed he was getting enough. Do they need to eat more often than other fish. I tend to think im a light feeder, from having nutrient problems in the past and always being told to cut back on feeding.

I typically feed once a day or every other. I try to mix it up between frozen, pellets and flake.

Hes active, always swimming around and picking at rocks. Color looks good.

Any ideas?

It's possible that it has worms in its guts. Did you use prazi in QT?

I didnt use prazi. Im still kind of new to qt'ing. And have read different opinions on treating, treat always, treat only if you see something etc.

So far ive only done the 30 day and watch method.

I would up the feeding, observe for stringy poo, and think about dosing prazi in the display or adding a dewormer to the food.

It could be nothing, and the fish just needs to eat more. Mysis would be great, and so are the pellets/flake if it eats them.

Would twice a day suffice? Ill wait maybe a few more days before I start meds.

As far as mysis, do you mean the frozen cubes? Right now my frozen food is the lfs brand which I heard good things about.

Any frozen (cubes, flat packs) is fine. Mysis is a good meaty food. Pellets and flakes are good too.

I agree, Halichoeres wrasses need at least 2 feedings a day, preferably more due to their activity level.

You can also add Selcon to their food.... all of your fish will benefit from this.

So I just ran out and got focus and the metroplex, aaaaand a mccoskers wrasse.

I figure id rather start it sooner than later and not regret it. Thanks everyone for the help. Im going to start feeding more often while trying to be careful of just how much.

Just wanted to ask opinions on how long I should feed the meds? And any ideas on how long it would take to work, start gaining weight? The metroplex directions say 3 weeks if dosing into the tank but no info on if doing the feeding method. Same thing 3 weeks? I just dont want to overdo it. Dont know if too much can be bad especially for the currently healthy fish that are now eating the meds.

Hes been eating. I went out and bought frozen mysis and have been adding that in also.

Have you soaked food in general cure and seachem focus? Wrasse are notorious for internal parasites and if you did this for 14 days it should clear it right up.

White stringy poop may or may not be present but it is a sure fire sign. Wrasse are notorious for internal parasites, I’d add this to a regimen for all wrasse. This can be administered in the DT as long as you feed what the fish will eat and also use focus to bind the metroplex to the food.

Yes I would feed all wrasse metro or general cure. General cure kills a wider spectrum of internal uglies, but metro is a good start. General cure is just metro and prazipro.

I just lost mine today after two years. That fish had been through the ringer. Survived 6 day power outage last year and water temp at 56. I noticed over the last month it had stopped sleeping in the sand. I feed heavy twice daily, and it always ate. However I think that it just wore itself down and died from exhaustion. I’m not sure why it stopped sleeping in the sand. My leopard wrasse still sleeps in there.
