There is a little hole in the side of the coral and when I shake it the inside flesh comes out. What could this possibly be?

Probably about a couple weeks now. I noticed some detritus build up around the base so I may try to find a spot with high flow. As far as lighting can they take a lot?I second the higher flow. I have one and at one point it didn't get enough flow, got a dead spot in middle that detritus settled in, and it started to rot. I ended up moving the leather where it would be in better flow and it's been doing very well.
Ditto on the lighting, I believe they are found in reefs and lagoons close to the surface and do just fine with high lighting.
Parameters seem fine, how new to the tank is it? I know sometimes leathers can be pretty pouty and then bounce back like nothing happened.
Okay I will give higher flow and light a chanceI also have found that low flow allows detritus to settle and leads to necrosis of the tissue underneath.
I had this one under 500 watts MH and 440 watts of VHO. They live light, especially to maintain the bright yellow color.
