Hello,

I noticed a black spot on my butterfly fish, it is pretty big and I am not sure where did it come from. It looks like a bruise but I am not sure if it is due to some trauma or it is some kind of infection.

Does anybody know what it could be?

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

More history is needed -
How long have you had the fish?
Who are its tankmates?
What are the water quality readings?
Did it show up overnight or grow in size over a day or two?

We have it for about two weeks.
We have a gem tang, anthias and clown fish.
Not sure about the quality readings, we have it professionally cleaned and monitored every 3 weeks and the guy just cleaned it today.
We noticed it yesterday and I do not thing that it was there before, so I guess it happened overnight and it does look that it has become bigger since then.

this looks like a bacterial infection - perhaps after an injury - to me. will await jays answer - suggest possibly a hospital tank. Looks a little like Uromena - which would be uncommon on this fish

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
