Yellow sponge turning white?

I got this live rock from LFS that is supposedly over 15yrs old. I assume this is yellow sponge? Any idea why it would be turning white? pH is 7.9...phosphate slowly coming down

Some sponges grow in cryptic zones, low flow, low light. Brighter light and higher flow probably just isn't optimal for that particular type of sponge. Sponges can be tricky.
 
No. Phosphates a little high, I don't see that being an issue for a sponge.
Yeah I'm slowly trying to get them down. When I started this tank, I started it with tap water cause I didn't know any better (enter slap face emojis) lol... Currently building a basement sump so hoping I can speed up the process with the gfo reactor and cheato
