My YWG lost his tiger pistol shrimp recently and since has been more more secluded. I bought a new one about 2 weeks after and a week has passed and they occupy 2 separate burrows. They are basically next door neighbors rather than a symbiotic pair. Hopefully you can distinguish the burrows in the image. Goby has the left shrimp has the right.

Will they eventually pair? When I acclimated the shrimp I netted him strategically to go first into the goby's cave but then he inhabited the next rock island.

I would wait and see. It’s hard to predict how fish will act in the small jail cell we call aquariums.

they will eventually pair up -- took mine a few days after my pistol died and I got a new one

Did yours ever pair? I added a yellow watchman goby a week ago very close to established candy cane pistol shrimp burrow. They "met" when YWM poked his head and tail at burrow entrance and I saw pistol hover near and his claws even touched goby's tail. But the next day, YWM is occupying a separate burrow at adjacent rock and it's been a week. I'm bummed. Since they "met" and didn't pair, does that mean they'll never pair?
