Well I checked salinity of the water the fish was shipped in and it was 1.020 my water is 1.025. And you mean make a batch of saltwater that’s the same salinity as the fish is in already and then put him in that QT tank? And then slowly raise the salinity of that water to my DT?
Yep exactly. The second the shipping water is exposed to oxygen the ammonia from the fish becomes much more toxic. You want the fish out of there ASAP. If you get it into fresh saltwater with a salinity that matches the shipping water then you can acclimate the fish to your DT conditions without the chance of the fish’s gills burning. Going straight from water with a low salinity to water with a high salinity is also very very hard on the fish. So acclimating is good, you just want to protect the fish from ammonia burns.
