I have a yellow watchman goby that I just picked up yesterday from the store. I acclimated him and a pair of clowns. I put them in the tank and the goby just swims around the top of the tank and won’t go to the bottom unless the tank has all pumps turned off

Very strange, I hardly ever see mine at the top of the tank. Is your flow on the bottom too strong for it? Do you have a fine enough substrate?

It’s the premium CaribSea sand and I just fed so all of the pumps are turned off he is just chilling at the top of the tank. He is really small though

Maybe at top of tank is the least amount of flow. And at bottom is a lot so he prefer top with less

I am not an expert, but that sounds like a very stressed fish. My YWG never leaves the bottom 1/3 of the tank.

Perhaps turn the lights down for a bit to let him settle in with the pumps on low.

If the clowns start picking on him, you may need to get the YWG out of there.

Yes mine never leaves the sand except to chase a piece of food floating 2-3 inches from sand bed. Mine is about 1 inch

Well I watched the fish in the tank and seen he would sometimes get bullied by my neon dottyback. So I captured the dottyback and isolated him until the goby can find a home but he still seems clueless

Mine did the same thing whe I first dropped him in. Took him like 30 min to drop to the bottom....Now (week later) At random times he comes out and swims to the surface stays there for like 5 min then drops and disappears. I would love to know if more people see this in their gobys
