Yellowtail Butterflyfish / Chaetodon xanthurus
SCIENTIFIC NAME –Chaetodon xanthurus
COMMON NAME – Yellowtail Butterflyfish
SIZE – 5.5" (14 cm)
MIN. AQUARIUM SIZE – 55 US Gal. (208 L)
FOODS AND FEEDING – The Yellowtail Butterflyfish consumes finely chopped marine fish, crustacean flesh, mysid shrimp, and frozen marine preparations. Should be fed a minimum of 3 times per day.
REEF COMPATIBILITY – Can be kept with the more noxious soft corals.
CAPTIVE CARE – The Yellowtail Butterflyfish readily acclimates to captivity and will accept a wide range of foods. This species is sensitive to water quality and it should be housed with peaceful tank mates. More than one can be kept in an adequately sized tank and can also be kept with other Butterflyfish. The Yellowtail Butterfly may be aggressive towards fish of similar shape and coloration.
