Hey,

I have a 65G with no sump (running a cannister for a year and half). Decided I may add a protein skimmer, and as such would need a HOB as I have no sump.

Looking at the Reef Ocopus classic 1000 HOB. Read a lot of horror stories about overflowing. Wouldn't want to drive anymore OCD I have into this hobby. Have Reef Octopus changed some features and added better safety for this issue ove rather years?

Any other HOB skimmers who have better safety features? Adding a sump at this point is not an option. Was looking at bubble magus but I'm unsure if it'll be able to fit as I have a hood top bracket where the glass top sits on that i think would change the dimensions of the skimmer or not fit properly.

Rob

I have a 65G and was looking into the 1000 Reef Octopus...but in my research A LOT of people complain that this item overflows. Now, I understand many factors can cause a skimmer to overflow...but...can't come home to a pool in my home lol

I've only had one minor incident in my 2 years of having this. It was due to me not paying attention. Even then you can run a tube to a jug underneath and prevent any chance of it ever happening.

It's simple. The collection cup comes with a built in plug. You just remove the plug and attach tubing then run it to a jug on the floor.
