ZEOvit Reactor

I was thinking about giving the Vertex ZEOvit reactor a try but had a few questions for those who use them:

1) Are they effective without any supplements?
2) What is the best media to use? I was thinking of just using ZEOlife.
3) Is it truly effective and worth it to run a ZEOvit reactor?
