I have several zoa frags whose heads are getting smaller. They aren’t melting and they’re still reproducing fine they’re just smaller. If they’re ok I don’t see it being an issue I like my polyps to be relatively the same size anyway. The zoa in question are my vamps in drag, purple monsters, and blue hornets. I recently increased my lighting and I think that may be the issue. I am running a biocube 32 led and used to run only whites during the day then went to whites+LEDs+blues. Would that effect them like this?
@footgal because she always helps me out

You can see how they look here. The vamps have made the most drastic change. I had moved them up higher in the tank as well since the stalks were reaching for light

How much smaller? Like 1/2 the original size? What size can you compare them to now? Have the colors gotten more vibrant since you increased lighting? Still open all the way? I notice that my zoas get bigger when moved to lower light so I assume that the opposite must also be true when moving zoas to higher light

Thanks for the pics! Very helpful :). That actually looks like exactly the same size as my vamps in drag, purple monsters, and Hornets so I think that they’re perfectly alright! Beautiful coloration on those guys by the way

Thank you! When I got these dudes, I kid you not they were the size of quarters. Maybe the didn’t have enough light to begin with? On the opposite hand, my CB white zombies are the size of nickels and have grown 6 new heads in a month since I got them. Zoa are so strange.

while I have your attention footgal, do you know a zoa like a hornet that’s got a yellow skirt, black mouth and bell, and a red ring inside? My wife and I saw one at a coral shop this weekend and the guy said they were OG Shazam’s but then I look that up it looks nothing like what I saw at all.

I think this is it exactly. My colors actually got brighter up higher but the polyp size decreased. I think you’re right.

Red Hornets have an orange skirt with a dark body and red ring as you describe. Maybe you saw a morphed out one? It might’ve been a NYRA Tiger Hornet or ECC Jawbreaker Hornet, although those two are much less common :)

This wasn’t a run of the mill LFS. I’ve seen red hornets and this wasn’t them. I’ll look those two jp and check it out. I know they have jawbreaker hornets because they auction them off on FB a lot. I’ve never heard of tiger hornets.
