I bought 4 zoa frags about a week ago. I dipped and acclimated the zoas and placed them at the bottom of the tank. The next day all of them opened up and looked fine. About two days later one of the frags started to close up. Each day one polyp would close up (It only had three polyps) and eventually all the polyps closed up. The other three frags are open and doing great, its just that one frag that is closed up. I do have other zoas in the tank and they are open and doing great too. What could the problem be?

Possibly flow? I'd take a turkey baster to them and see if theres something on them irritating them.
I did try that, I forgot to mention that. I also placed them in lower light to see if it was a lighting problem but still nothing changed.

I would check if any or your fish or inverts are messing with them and annoying them to close.
Also could be a pest.

what are your water parameters?

for me- I noticed my zoas started really doing well when I started dosing iodine. But be careful - I hate to dose things I can’t test for- but this really helped me.
Take care

I do have hermits crabs. They always check out the new frags but that's pretty much it. I have not seen them bother even since. They do walk all over my existing zoas but they always open back up again. I have heard that adding aminos does help with zoa opening up and I have been adding amino before getting the new frags. To be honest, Idk what my parameters are I have never tested my tank (.-.) I probably should :/. Im still a noob.

I would start with testing testing testing lol.

this is most likely the issue. Your water parameters being out of whack would for sure cause you issues.

Yeah lol, but I find it weird that everything in my tank including existing corals is doing fine except that one frag.

I’m having a similar problem. All my zoas were open and healthy growing and out the blue 2 frags closed ppl suggest a little increased flow and a few polyps opened

Update: The zoas have finally opened up! I changed their location to where no inverts would bother them and I blasting them with a turkey baster once in a while. I also kept adding amino acids. They are slowly opening-up.
