I bought 2 new zoas frags about a week and a half ago today. One has been open and is doing good, the other was open for a few days and closed up and has been closed for about 3 days. All my other corals are doing very well and my water parameters are good. Any ideas? Something i should be worried about or is it normal? Im new to corals so im still figuring it out.

Mine can be dram queens sometimes. When my lights are at peak, they close up and open again late evening. Just give them some time to adjust.

I would try maybe an iodine dip to encourage them. When they were open, was it fully? What did the zoas look like when they were open? if they were darker colored maybe consider lowing the PAR they’re at.

I can’t see any algae in the pic but can you inspect them really closely to see if there’s anything like film algae on the polyps?

It was open fully, here is a bad picture from when it opened first. Its the orange zoa. There is a little algae around the plug but none on the coral.

One of the polyps is damaged, I think you may be dealing with a pest on the frag. The little one is also severely umbrella’d which is concerning. I would do a dip targeting pests and hitchhikers then look for improvement

Was there any tissue left on the frag plug? If so leave it in your tank! They will come back to life given enough time
Yea i left it in the tank, it came off the plug completely and all these months later i have not seen it. Very unfortunate because it was my prettiest zoa. Its the only coral i have ever lost so im not to bummed out about it. I also started dosing iodine in my tank and the zoa i have now is growing faster and the colors are brighter. I wonder if the zoa i lost could have came back with it.
