sorry for the bad pic, I moved this colony from the bottom where they laid flat to the middle of the tank and now it looks like maybe they are stretching for light. Could this be an indicator of too much light? I did happen to switch lights recently but they started to do this before I switched.....

If you moved them higher but also more to the end of the tank they may actually be getting LESS light. If they get too much light, they'll close up. Stretching usually indicates looking for more light.
