Hello everyone. I hope you are doing well. I have a concern about my zoa. Is this normal what i show in the photo? They look so stretched almost resembling a mushroom :confused:.

They are some seriously unhappy zoas. Typically stretching means they need light, when they umbrella they are getting too much. Not sure what's happening here.

What kind of light do you have, and what intensity, and what depth tank?

I seriously don't know what's happening. I thought that when they get too much light they get close to the rocks.

I'm using 2x Popblooms rl90 and I'm the photo there's my schedule and intensity.

The tank is 35 cm deep. Also the light are set I think 15 cm above water or more.

1. How long have they been like this?
2. How are you other corals doing? Are these the only ones with a problem?
3. What are you parameters?

1. They have been like this for 1 week and a half;
2. The other corals are doing fine. Just this colony of zoanthus;
3. Ca: 480, KH: 12, Mg: 1400, Sal: 1,025;

I would try moving your zoas to an area with a lower flow and lower light and see how they do over the next few days

I think they are already in a zone with a lower flow and lower light when compared to the other corals but no super low :grinning-face-with-sweat:

How long did you have them before they started doing this?
i had them for like 5 months before they started doing this. Also, I remembered today that 2 weeks ago I was decreasing the KH value from 15 to 12. Can that affect zoanthus?? I don't know

15 is very high. I have happy zoas at 8.0dkh, I would work on lowering your KH over the next month to something between 7 and 10.

So they did this about the same time that you decreased KH? Did anything else change around that time?

i can try but the salt i purchased has 12 kh written in the bucket :grinning-face-with-sweat:

Ya basically. But i didnt know that soft corals are affected by KH :grinning-face-with-sweat:

It may have changed too quickly or maybe they suffered from it being too high. I don't know enough about zoas to know for sure 😁 I would keep things stable and see if they recover.

Looks like there is something wrong with your fixture. Mine is set to Tropical Spring.

I changed the light schedule to more blue instead of white and I think they are recovering. Maybe the high light intensity mixed with the kh being high made them super unhappy

Hi, how are you? I'm asking because my Zoas are also behaving like Zetas. What was your solution?
