So i just got myself a new Marineland 300DD tank and stand. So far i've ran into a few issues with the setup. One being that the stand is short. only 29" tall. Inside of the stand the room from top to bottom is 25.5" which really limits what skimmers i can have under there that are rated to handle such a large volume of water with a heavy bioload. The second issue im having is the GPH the overflows are rated for. Right now they can only handle 1400GPH total which is less than half of what i want. bare minimum i want 3000GPH. so far what i've come up with is saying screw the returns and make them gravity drains and run the returns from the back of the tank over the top. Drilling is out of the question because it will void the warranty. Lastly the teeth on the overflow cant handle that much flow so i have to elongate them somehow. if anyone has any suggestion on how to do that please let me know.

Okay, now onto the build. I'm planning on having the tank up and running in 6 months or so. So far my equipment list looks like this

Custom 80 gallon acrylic sump
Skimz Monzter SM253 DC Internal Protein Skimmer
6 Kessil A360WE
Apex Gold
REEFLO Snapper external pump
Skimz Monzter CM202 external calcim reactor
Gyre XF150
2 MP40's
Autoaqua Smart ATO
40w AQUA UV Sterilizer

Built a platform for the stand to sit on last weekend so the tank will be a little closer to eye level. This weekend i have some friends coming over to finally but the tank in its resting place!

Great build!! Just a couple things... Is there a reason you want so much flow through your sump? Really you don't need any more flow through the sump than your skimmer can pull and the Skimz you list pulls probably no more than 500 gph. On my 300 I have probably around 1000 gph through the sump. At the flow you're talking about the water will be crashing through the sump and most likely be loud. The amount of microbubbles being returned to the tank will also increase as they have no time to make it to the surface. I would do a google search on low flow through sump and take a read, see what you think. Just my 2 cents. Looking forward to your build though, you have some great equipment picked out.

I would look into herbie setup. It will handle the 3000gph without a problem. It also will be silent.

It's slowly coming along. I should have water in it by the end of the month. I've got all the equipment except heaters, and rock. I went with 6 AI Sols supplemented with two 72" T5s. I'll be building the hanging canopy and winch system this coming weekend. I'm also building my own sump due to the odd size of the marineland stand. The opening on the side of the stand is only 17.5" wide and 19" tall so I was limited on the sump size. The sump that I'm building is 70" long 17" wide and 16" tall. I went with a skimz monzter sm203 skimmer, it wasn't the original one that I wanted but it popped up in a local group for sale and I couldn't pass up the deal. I've got 4 jebao RW-20s and a Waveline DC9000 return pump. I was originally going to go with a reeflo snapper but there's no need for that much flow through my sump. I'm already QTing a few fish. The first to go in when it's finally wet are an orange shoulder, orange spot bristle tooth tang, and a blonde naso tang and the 6 chromis.

Can we see pics? I've looked at the 300 DD. Just got scared with some of the stories of failures.
