Do you still have your black tang?

If you want dumb I’ll raise you my lionfish. I put a few guppies in the box with my Soapfish. The rest in the tank with the lion. But the lion has been exclusively staring at the 3 it can’t eat.:face-with-tears-of-joy:

Even fish always want what they can't have!

I think gem tangs look hideous and everyone had one now
I prefer gems over the black but all in all I have a severe disliking towards most Zebrasoma. A few exceptions are;
A very nice specimen (more orange hues) of the Yellow Tang
Purple Tangs (Again, would generally have to be a nice specimen)
Both Sailfins

Im shocked at how small the two soapfish are!

Dr Seuss is only 3 inches and the Arrowhead is 6 inches. I saw the name and thought it would be quite big (8-9”). Maybe I’ve been put on the radar of another fish if I get a larger tank.
With the camera it turns a nice blue tint.

The 3 musketeers.. Black tang, Gem and Blueline. ALwyas hanging together
Ehh, the blue line stands out the most still ;)

They’re all nice fish but the blue line is the nicest in the group IMO.

While I like all 3, Cant argue your point. Its tough to beat the blue line, especially under blue lights
I have a regal that glows under blues, I bet septentrionalis look even nicer as they’re covered in blues and have a deep brown background.

Never own one and never will. I would not even pick one up if it is for free with the specification that I cannot resale it. I would get it (for free) if I can make money and resale it.
It is not the color. I have a very beautiful Chevron which is iridescent blue-green black.

I think it’s time to talk about how over-rated Zebra tangs are….

Just a couple more lines to the convicts result in quite a few more zeros in $$
And super-agressive too (from what I read, never have one), not nice like a Convict

How old is your chevron? You own pretty much the only terminal adult I've seen hobbyists post about in the last few years

Will always love a mature chevron, just a pain with how big they get…

Even better photo of the abomination;

It’s just black and bland! A gemmatum is nicer (albeit I have my own conflicts with them… I think the only Zebrasoma I like are Purples and the two Sailfins).
I’m not a fan of the black tangs but my gem is gorgeous.

are there any other totally black fish in the hobby?
Honestly, yes…
Nox dwarf angels are totally black, Midnight Parrots (although these aren’t common) are mostly black or a very deep blue, Tongan Black Foxfaces, there’s also black cardinals.
My favourite was the Tongan Black Fox - Siganus niger.

There’s many more as well.
