I just want to make sure I get everything I need
I know I have to get a pump for mixing saltwater
A reef tank
Water testing kit
Live sand
Filter and pump for tank
Maybe a live rock
What else do I need

Heater for tank. I also use a heater when making water so the new water is same temp as tank.

Don't forget a heater, a wave pump, and good lights!

I think nano tanks are perfect for beginners! I just set up a 32g and have a spreadsheet in my build thread with all my startup costs. You might find it helpful as you do your planning!

Welcome to Reef2Reef. Test kits would be good. Iwould suggest you watch 52 weeks of reefing or the 5 minute guides. Good stuff just hide your wallet
