OMG that is the cutest thing Ive ever seen!!! cant wait to see the finished product!
lol, thank you. I'm a fish nerd and a little :der:

BUT! Honestly I hope to have a unique tank. I half executed the miniature garden idea with my fuge a long time ago, but this time I'm determined to keep at it till it looks like my vision:

love that fuge! are you going to to with a cucumber?
Thanks. I'm probably not going with the yellow cucumber but I haven't really decided on critters either. I have to re-do the tree and then make sure all the corals are in. Last step is the critters.

oops, should have said "to go" not "to to" obviously you got it. why do you have to re-do the tree? it looks so cool - what critters are you thinking about? I am so intrigued by this build :)

A friend has staghorn skeletons which would look a billion times better - more proportionate branches. I'll still use the birdsnest for the ends of the branches.

I'd like to have inverts only. Oshimai crab comes to mind.

I'm also seriously considering making this a nudibranch habitat.

Alright, time for some peechurs. I love the zen quality of planted tanks, and I am rather taken in with miniature gardens. The foot print of the pico is 7X7X8 making this the ideal size for the miniature garden idea.

The picture that inspired me the most is below:
tumblr_md325vrQq61rfc73zo1_r1_1280.jpg

At first I used emarco mortar over a PVC pipe to make a tree trunk, that didn't work out that well. Then I used polymer clay to make a creepy looking 'thing' which was just a prototype.

I contacted a professional sculptor but they were unsure of using polymer clay and of making what I wanted. So I had to try again.

I baked this for the suggested time, it hardened. Then I sealed it with krylon fusion clear.

Using birdsnest skeletons, I painted them with krylon fusion and used them for branches.

The finished product is a spooky tree. Sealed with krylon fusion and cured in salt water for 4 weeks.

Too COOL!

I installed an ecopico blue strip in the tank today. I'm also trying out a pot of Xenia. So far I'm not sure if I will keep them. I also threw in a couple of zoa frags. So far the zoas are not happy because of the stock lighting. Maybe this ecopico light will help.

I feel a petulant moment coming on. :furious:

The cubey is in serious need of better filtration, flow and light. I've begun making non invasive mods to the tank. Starting with the addition of the eco-pico strip. Been searching for a return pump that is more powerful than the one in it right now and I think I might have found it.

As for flow in the tank, no powerhead is small enough for the display so JBB suggested using the smallest return pumps available like the Tunze to use as the powerhead. I had a couple of fountain pumps and such sitting around so I installed one of those. Wow HOLY DETRITUS AND SCHMUTZ KATWOMAN. My cat was looking at it and did one of these

So the flow problem has been solved. But now there is this ugly *** pump staring at me saying made in China.

I had a similar idea of making a landscape. My idea was to line up zoas to look like a lettuce field and get some sps colonies as trees. For not being a sculptor that tree is awesome. May have to try the polymer clay on a future project.

The lettuce field idea sounds really awesome. Or maybe like Tulip fields in Holland

looking cool. I'm sure you can come up with something creative to put right where that label is on the pump. Something in keeping with the garden theme. I love those little pots! I see what you mean in terms of the staghorns looking really neat on the tree! I absolutely love this build :)

I've been working on the tree this weekend. The staghorn branches were sprayed over 24 hours before I started on the makeover of the tree. Took me about 4-5 hours to come up with something that I thought looked okay, and also was able to fit in the tank.
