DESIGN UPDATE

After we assembled the initial prototype as would the average bear, we made some changes to it.

1) media caddy. instead of a media shelf, there will be a media caddy.
2) the rear wall top perimeter is no longer there. the thickness of the perimeter at the rear wall will be the the thickness of the rear wall. this means some of you who had trouble with certain clip mounted lights will be happy to know they now will fit without issues.
3) this is a difficult build and seam quality will not be good. still watertight but not pretty, therefore, there will be side covers to hide the seams. they look quite nice too. the assembly procedures are intended to give excellent results for the front seams though. the ones that count. the other ones will have margins for error.

updated renders below. the rear panel is black. the image below is clear to show the filter detail.

With the new side covers do we get the option for the side and back cut out areas for a drawer or ATO tub?
If so can the cut outs be provided for drawer end(s)?
Since your making the DIY kit look sleeker can the media baffle not be tabbed? I believe we can adhere it in place without one.
What are the pump chamber dimensions and LxW of opening at the top?

What size and kind of return pump are you going to use for this Drop Off?
Thinking about same Sicce MicraPlus158GPH I'm putting in the pico. ~20x turn over for this 8gallon tank.
Supplementing flow with mini wave maker in lower area as well
8 gallon total volume. 7 gallon display assuming 1.25" sand bed and water height .75 from top.

Initially thought a MicraPlus 158 would be enough with 20x turn over but after looking at the IM Fusion AIO10 using a MightyJet 326 GPH DC Return Pump really thinking of going bigger. hmmm reminds me of " Think we're going to need a bigger boat" quote.

I put a ~350gph jebao in the tenecor pico and it's not too much. Still on the fence if I can justify hopping into the dropoff build, but if I wouldn't hesitate to do 300+gph return, if for nothing else to allow running at <100% and flow decrease over time.

Here you go. Please keep in mind these dims

are subject to change until the design is finalized.
I take it that means the drop-off is about 7"?

I'm planning on setting this up for my pistol shrimp the buries everything in my main tank. The drop-off section will make for a good deep sand bed area for my pistol and watchman goby.
