Hello All.

What is the best approach to raise my 0 nitrate/phosphat?
I purchased food grade sodium nitrate and loudwolf sodium phosphate. And for the life of me I do not dare to make the mixture without being worried of killing off my already dying corals.

I would use this if starting from scratch. I remember putting the entire loudwolf phosphate bottle into two liters. I use stump remover for the nitrate, so I can't help there. I have to look it up each time since I infrequently use it. I don't know how much can be dissolved in a given volume.

You are obviously going to have to test to confirm your dosing results as you go along. I shoot for .1 PO4 and 10 NO3.

I had my formula in notes in Apex, but lost it when I upgraded. I believe I was mixing 100 grams per 2 liter bottle. As long as it all dissolves, the calculator can tell you the rest. I.e. 100 grams in 2 liters for me- if I add 50mls of solution to my 125 gallons, nitrate goes up a little over 3.

I quickly looked to see what others recommend, and 10 grams per liter seems to be repeated a lot. My solution of 100g/2 liter is a lot more potent than 10g/1 liter.

With due respect you gotta tell us all more....what is your tank? What are you running for filtration? What are you feeding? How much? What is your stock? It all matters....to throw chemicals at it as suggested without any knowledge of what your system is? Wow....does anyone else find this nutz?

Dose 2-4 ppm nitrate and 0.02 ppm phosphate for a few days and monitor and adjust butt needed.

Use the link above to James calculator to make and use a dosing solution.
For the sodium nitrate, just use the entry for potassium nitrate.
For sodium phosphate, use the entry for potassium phosphate.

What would be your suggested regimen for a 60gal tank?

Also, would the nitrate dose be a few days continuously or one day on one day off?

Let the fun begin

The regimen I suggested is independent of tank size. Dose every day.

Hey Randy,

How many grams of potassium nitrate and trisodium phosphate can be added to a liter before it's saturated and no more will dissolve? Thanks.

Lots.

I recommend sodium nitrate, not potassium, unless you are monitoring potassium.

KNO3 >300 g/L
NaNO3 can be made almost 50% by weight

The phosphate ones vary by exact form.

Na3PO4 solubility >100 g/L

I've not tested it, but the description sounds fine. :)

Hello Randy. Longtime no chat, almost a year lol. After several weeks of manually dosing 5-6ml of Nit and 1-2ml Phos (both about 0) and the dino seems to be coming back and I am beginning to lose more of my SPS colonies. The #s were ok for a bit and some of my browned out SPS began to color up, but I think that my aquarium demands more than what I was manually dosing...maybe automate it.

Should I raise the Nit/phos ml's (my aquarium is 60gal bare bottom mixed reef) and how should I space it out through out the day. Btw, I auto dose Alk/Cal 2x a day.

Thanks in advance for any help with my ordeal

I have a mixture of 100g of sodium nitrate and 5 grams of trisodium phosphate in 1,500 ml of rodi. I dose about 25 ml a day using my kamoer x1 spread throughout the day. So no matter what, I always have some nutrients flowing. I actually added more light and I noticed my levels always low so I’m upping my periodic dose
