Same. Not saying it's right but I have never QTed anything. Also, Paul B doesn't QT. He says that QTing takes away your DT fish's ability to fight off disease when disease shows up, because it will show up. Naturally stronger immunities are better than chemicals in the tank, stressing fish to move them for treatment, etc.

You don't have to use the scum. I just use it to seed the media.

Since this is a tank that is intended to be used for quarantine, wouldn't there be a risk of adding some bacteria by using water from the display tank?

Not really. Adding freshwater with 0 beneficial bacteria into a brand new tank can have the risk of causing an ammonia spike with little to no nitrifying bacteria present. That can cause a bacterial blooms which can strip the water of dissolved oxygen.

Possibility but if your tank is healthy and that's the tank they're going into they're going to deal with it sooner or later.
I prefer sooner.

In theory my display tank is pest free. I used dry rock and sand (which is more and more regret with every passing day) and all my inverts went fallow, and my 2 fish went through a copper power treatment.

I haven't. The one time I chose to QT, my corals I QTed started dying rapidly so I added them to the tank immediately. Saved several of them but I did end up with Monti Eating Nudibranches so, yes, there is a risk.

I've had to treat freshwater Ich a couple of times. I raised the temperature and added Epsom salts or whatever the "freshwater salt" is

Well that was my concern. If i get some crazy worms, my rocks all epoxied together. I can't really pull it out if a colony attached to it needs to be cleaned or something..

I don't quarantine fish and I always thought that you should use the cleanest water possible at least the first time you fill the qt tank, in case some medication could have a bad reaction with an unwanted bacteria that could live in the tank but does not affect the existing fish because as Tim says they have already generated a type of antibody if you could call it like that lol

The biggest problem with copper is that it kills everything - literally. It's a very aggressive treatment. Think of it kind of like chemotherapy except we're potentially treating a fish that doesn't need treatment.

Is treatment necessary at times? Probably.

I have had Berghia and Aiptasia File Fish. I've had Peppermint Shrimp.
