Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
Whats the general thought about a refugium and skimmer as opposed to filter socks and skimmer? And only use filter socks when stirring stuff up then remove when water clears up?

I have 2 tunze ecochics and a kessil h80, I have all the room, and parts to do a remote refugium or use the refugium area in my sump... I also thought, the one in the sump is small... I could throw something in there and leave it 24/7 for oxygen/ph booster and have a bigger remote one that turns on opposite the display lights? Idk if refugium needs a dark/light cycle if it's only macro algae though

I don't like filter socks. They're too much work for me to clean everyday, plus there's other negatives too. I like the idea of a refugium and skimmer much better. That's what im doing for my sump.

I saw that someone was breeding mysi d shrimp in the refugium section of their sump, and some would make it to the DT tank, and the fish could eat live food all day. I kind of want to do something like that, but ill have to see how hard it may be.

I wish I could see myself culturing phyto but as of right now it seems like a hassle...

All the live culturing of mysis, phyto, etc seems like a lot of work unless it's just throw it in the tank and it reproduces like pods lol. That said, I was pricing out phyto and that stuffs liquid gold... I'll need a second mortgage just to buy the stuff

I do filter cups with PolyFil and a fakefugium...

Its not! I've done it myself, it's super simple. Just get a bubbler, some guillards f2 fertilizer, a light and a single strain of phyto.

Any bottle will work, just make sure it's sanitized. Make new saltwater, dump in some phyto so the water is light green. Add the fertilizer per the instructions, add the bubbler, add the light and leave it for a week. Once it's a dark green, you're ready for harvest!

I've talked about doing bigger cultures, and sending you all bottles for free. Still haven't done that yet lol. But maybe soon!

Tri Tip is getting close. Another 20-30 degrees internal temperature.

Any particular lights needed? I could use my kessil for a refugium and a tunze on either side of a could bottles.. if it needs a algae growing light that is

I've just used a cheap plant grow light. It's probably not the best, which is probably why I don't get the darkest cultures.

As long as the light is bright, it should work just fine!

Also, if you're really going to try, nannochloropsis is by far the easiest strain to grow. Just sayin.
