What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
You bought the scrubber!? I think that was a fantastic purchase. I have an aio system and it is so dialed in right now. The second that changes, im getting a Santa Monica ats, no doubt about it. It'll be cool to watch your progress and see the reaction your corals have to it. It could also be beneficial for your ph levels.
My ph level are always a touch lower than I'd like so that was another big selling point for me! I also didnt want a macro making its way up out of my refugium and into my display so a scrubber seemed the best option for me and I have a perfect spot to stick up as well

97°, high humidity, and high UV and today's the day they send me out to do the feed for a couple new heat pumps. Spent ALL day outside. Then there was road association drama 😒 we dont have anyone here who knows a decent bit about maintaining a private dirt road do we?
Heatwave in effect in many states

Friendly PSA for those with central air

Remember to clean your outdoor units coils

When the fan is on, it’s pulling air inwards from all sides of the unit, and expelling the air upwards out the top. When debris is in the air in the vicinity, it’s pulled in and gets caught in the cooling fins, and builds up over time. Mowing the grass near the unit, while the unit is on, is a main cause for grass trimmings and dust to become airborne and caught in these fins, dramatically affecting your ac’s efficiency, and overall cooling capability.

Just a reminder, break out the hose and blast this crud out, and restore your systems full performance, we dont need our homes and reefs struggling with excess heat.

Yesterday my central air couldn’t bring my homes temp below 76 degrees. I checked the cooling fins, filled with crud, mostly dead grass. Cleaned it all out, was able to cool the house to 70

So heres the long story short, but still long, if you can get through the whole tale without falling asleep, tell me if im wrong: the guy that maintains the road decides he hates certain people. Its a culmination of: how you behave on the road, what you do with your life, who you voted for, and if you treat him as almighty and important. Because he hates people down the road from me, he decided not to maintain the road because he thought they were going too fast and "tearing up the road" which was completely bs, they've fueded for over 20 years now, and this stunt was just ruining everyones struts and ball joints. So my neighbor and I have built a couple different drags as we're the first on the road so it'd be quick and easy to drag, and I dont have a tractor. YET. After our first drag, 2 or 3 weeks ago, the road from my neighbors house to the pavement was substantially better but his setup didnt work the best. Took a lot of passes, and wasn't rigid so it mostly just contoured to the road shape. So I rigged something up that scrapes but doesnt dig much, mostly just gouges the surface, and has some chain link hanging off the back to smooth as i go. Got it setup so the drags at a 45° angle and it works really good.
Now before i mention our interaction, i need to specify, the road has no crown, nor ditches. We mention it needs these and his response is "the ****bags up the road will just drive their trucks through and ruin it." Its basically wide and flat but pot holes galore.
Also, when we complained the president gave us some speech about how its so much better than it used to be blah blah blah, (Hadn't graded it in almost a year at this point) and that its everyones responsibility to help maintain the road. Last meeting, no one mentioned us dragging the road at all, but suggested I take over running the old grader the road association bought as Tom's no spring chicken anymore and its time for the young buck to take some responsibility. Which to be fair, i rented a massive breaker and spent 12hours breaking up rocks to make grading easier last fall, and probably have twice the hours as Tom invested into fixing the road this year, before I even complained. So im under the impression they want me to do something.
After we did the first passes with prototype 1 he came out and graded for the first time this summer the next day. Presumably because we had a road association meeting coming up and didnt want to go to the meeting where we could honestly say we put more effort into the road than him. The road was covered in rocks. We made our new setup and dragged the rocks, and only the rocks the next day. Idk how it works so well, im not an engineer but it works out so well that theres nothing but large rocks being pushing similar to how a plow pushes snow. We did our whole section up to my neighbor's house. Best the roads been the entire time i've lived here. Fast forward about few weeks, starting to get a few washboards and come home from work he had come up and graded that section and ripped up copious amounts of rocks anywhere from 1"-8" ish. Couldn't even drive straight down the road, had to drive around rocks. So we went out with our rig, which I'll say again, works surprisingly well at sifting the rocks off but allowing the finer stuff to slide underneath a day or two later. Got all the small rocks(at least a couple yards over the course of approximately 2000') on the side of the road, but not in the ditch, as there isnt one, and he came down saying we were ruining the road and yelling. Said those rocks are what holds the road together and we were ruining it, we needed to drive over them and pack them in over the next few weeks.

Long read but the drama is sickening and I just want to live in the woods, hunt, grow vegetables and fruit, and have a reef tank. Watch my kids grow. Not deal with road drama 🤦‍♂️

Mike, my power just went out. 😢😩
Hottest day ever. Too many AC units running?
Well out for 20 minutes and I have 105 minutes on the UpS before I need to fire up the generator. I hope it’s not long. I can’t run my AC on this generator.

I didnt put mine in.. I thought I'd be tough and capitalize on not having to heat my tank like the Arizonans do. Man I hate my bright ideas sometimes hahaha. Can you run your ac if you plug only that into the generator? Don't turn on any other circuits?

I think the AC unit is too much. I have a 8k generator but the line only accept 7500. I’m not sure how many tons the AC is.

A window mount ac, or a portable one that vents a heat exhaust tube out a window should be able to be run on a small gas generator

Get one at Walmart or Home Depot easily

Is it a heat pump, central air or just a windows ac? Thats a massive ac if a 8k cant run it!

I have whole house.
No, I mean if you have a power outage you need to cool the room with the tank. In situation like this you can run a smaller single room unit off the generator and have a room to hang out in, and protect the tank

C'mon Mike you should have got in your giant halftrack and drove those rocks in....but then he'd complain that your tracks were tearing up the road!

I have to say, seeing everyone take so much time out of their day to catch up with everyone is one of the coolest things about this thread. It shows such a genuine level of compassion that this world is missing in large part.
Yes John perfectly said as always!

thank you! i just get such a sick feeling when he wont eat. hes so beautiful!
but thats nothing with what you are facing with your son! hope he gets good care and a speedy recovery!
Feed, bail and set your phone to record.
Try to notice anything in particular or if he/she eats at all
You can try small amounts of two different foods, sometimes that helps.
I've never quarantined per se but I had a fussy angel one time I had to use a partition for.

@BubblesandSqueak
Something like this uses 1300w and you have a 7,000w generator

It can cool an entire room and is on wheels so you can move from room to room or aim down hallways. An extension cord to the generator would be needed. It vents heat out a window. This could save a reef by keeping the room from getting too warm. Much more efficient and versatile than a chiller
