you would not believe how much garlic I have coming in this year. I'm tempted to dig down and expose some bulbs. I heard this makes them grow larger as do onions but reluctant to try. they were large enough last year. Last years remaining are starting to get green inside now.

My wife’s father used to grow elephant garlic that had huge bulbs. One clove could be the size of the whole bulb of regular garlic.

apparently I missed a big event here. sorry you lost fish. sounds like it was pretty quick. wouldn't have thought a bacterial bloom or deceased snail would cause that. no one sprayed something near the tank like floor cleaning spray etc...? Like I said I only saw a couple posts. you guys made many pages while we went to the beach.

Nothing like that, we can pin point Paul. I just found the second wrasse. What a crazy event brother. So far the corals seem OK as many suggested.

I'm devastated for you my friend.
You have made this thread so special with your positive attitude and never ending wit, all the love you share and joy you bring all of us.
As you know this same thing happened to me last week .
From what I can tell, when I went to bed the night before, I noticed a bacterial bloom, water was milky white.
I didn't think anything about it, just noticed.
There was no surface agitation and once the lights went off, no more oxygen being made either.
That was the telltale sign for me of oxygen depletion, leading to the fish suffocating.
My corals were fine.
Parameters fine.
Salinity fine.
Nothing changed.
What caused the bloom I have no idea .
What I do know is I will always have a powerhead/return/something going at the surface from now on
I turn all the flow off for my mystery berghia at night but after this I have one small powerhead always on at the surface.
This couldn't have happened to a better guy and I'm truly sorry.

These fish become part of our lives and we surely hate when something like this happens to them, but after reading this, how can I keep feeling bad? What started as a fun hobby became an extended family and what is more amazing than that? I hope you know how much I appreciate you taking the time to post that Joel. It had a real impact on me.

I keep an airstone or two in the sump running 24/7. It helps with pH and aeration (since I don't run a skimmer).

I was going to ask if you thought dropping the aerator stone behind the aio wall would be OK bc it was wreaking havoc in the display.

I have a couple dozen snap pea plants so I looked up a recipe for snap peas. When they were done they will be a nice side dish. After trying one she said they aren’t going to make to the next meal and we just snacked on them while cooking and they were gone in 10 minutes.

Did you just fry them? I always just eat them raw and have never cooked cooked them.

I run an undersized skimmer in my sump (a Tunze 9004) while it pulls some organics its main use is for extra aeration without salt creep.

That is smart. Ive learned a lot today.

My wife just sent me this. She said she cleaned the glass and wanted to show me. I didn't tell her she didn't do the sides or the back... LOL... better to leave that one alone! The picture turned out pretty good too, she doesn't know how to use the Orphek filters. Good thing the lights were at peak (about 14k). Not sure what the yellow tang is doing, maybe picking at the egg crate??

Yep Ive got a wave maker with great surface agitation Joel. The one I shouldn't have turned off last night. :(
