Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
you can get them bigger by keeping a colony in a 5 gal. tank, feed them phyto, they will reproduce with live young in the tank
Im going to set that up soon. I want to grow some out, but ill still keep feeding them the new hatch after they eat those nutritious yolk sacs.

I think the dwarf Ceriths I added recently have a death wish. Yesterday morning I got one out of the wavemaker on the left side of the tank, last night I got one out of the one on the right, then both this morning and this evening I got another one out of the one on the right. I have ordered covers for both of them but they haven't gotten here yet.

I guess they go into a food coma like Kevin said. I'm still learning about them since it's my first one but they're a must have in any tank now.
Had one that I missed in a tank tear down. Survived a week in some sand at the bottom of my old tank. Along with a snail. I believe I have had it for 15 years or so.

Great tank mate.

They sent you some really nice acans. I like them all, but 2 and 6 are superstars
Thank you my friend! I like 5 of the acans the best and the scoly is wonderful!

Algae grow in the high flow areas of the pumps, they must want some of it

Long day, finished the mount for the light on my new DIY AIO , phyto cultures came in today, my big air pump bit the dust, never came back after shutting down earlier this week, did not have time to disassemble and check it out, rigged up my other air pumps.

Galbana (gold) and Chui (green) starter cultures

How was your day my friend?
Not bad, I tested p04 and it was an insane .6! Ive never had it that high before, but Ive added more fish and started feeding a new coral food for my sps and I think those two things caused it.

I did my routine water change and added some pura phoslock. Now it's dinner time!

Brother that setup looks great! You're making me consider this. I dose store bought phyto already

Oof… well, this can be remedied by reducing return pump flow! — if you reduce water input enough that a single drain can keep up, your redundant overflow should start working as intended!

— Regarding the new tank, the first step would probably be removing those black plastic plumbing parts that pass through the tank bottom (“bulkhead” fittings)…

— these are being removed because the rubber sealing washer (gasket) on each is likely quite old/dry rotted, and liable to weep water if put back into service!

here’s a diagram of what these bulkhead fittings actually looks like, for reference purposes:

IMG_1113.jpeg

— note the flange side (measurement A), it’s the part visible in your photos, with a gasket (measurement E) directly under it, between flange and glass…

— now, to the outside of the glass; the bulkhead nut (measurement D) is the part you need to unscrew! Some are reverse threaded like the above diagram, but many are standard threaded… if the nut isn’t loosening at all in the standard direction (counter-clockwise nut rotation), examine the threads an note the direction of spiral! (Note that the entire fitting might begin to spin once loosened, requiring a helper to hold the flange side in place, or unscrew from the flange side)

— Once you have these bulkhead fittings removed, we can confirm hole diameter(s), and decide if the existing bulkhead fittings need a simple new gasket, or if it would be prudent to replace them altogether!
I know this is geared towards @Calmwaters but thank you for dropping this incredible information on the Smorgasbord. You went into a lot of detail, and I think this is how we keep the hobby growing.

I think 3 heaping little spoons full
I use like 3/4 of one lol. That's way more than I can feed my critters. I probably would.do one heaping spoon at a time.
