So far what I have found is that without power the inkbird can't send an alarm to my text messages or emails. If anyone knows differently chime in please. But it will alert you with an alarm otherwise

There are devices that plug into your homes sockets that will send you push alerts during power outages. Looking more into these. I am assuming that if I plug such a device into the power strip the clinic uses and it fails I would get an alert. This might help during an outage. But I still wouldn't know if the return pump failed.

Might need to add a bubbler into the tank as a backup oxygen supply.
If the power goes off, you should get an alarm because the heater will be off and the temp parameters you set wont be true anymore. Is that not the case? Nothing in the app would tell you that the unit was off line if it cometely lost power?

The only units that will work during a power fail are the cloud-synced ones that get a 'heartbeat' from the onsite device. Some smart plugs, hydros controllers and (probably, as I've never checked it) APEX controllers. If the unit, like an Inkbird for example, loses power it can't send an alert so you need something that regularly syncs up with another site. Then the other site can alert you that your unit is not responding.

You'd have to have something connected to a Cloud service of some type that sends a notification when the device fails to connect. I believe Kasa has that capability but I don't use Kasa. I know my Hydros Collective tells me when power is out or WiFi is down but you're looking at $200 minimum for a Hydros Controller just to have that. Kasa would be closer to $35 but might have a monthly fee for the notification service?

That's what she's looking for. Something that'll notify her that the power is out.

Good to know. Will look into these. If it was my personal tank I would just buy the most reliable at notifications. But trying to source reliable on a budget that is smaller is more difficult. 😞

You could recommend something like a Hydros X2 with a temp sensor and a level sensor. Then they could monitor the ATO, temperature, and it would notify when power or wifi was out for more than 5 minutes.

It's $200 for the X2 and around $100 total for the two sensors.
