Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
From what I understand John is the only way to know for sure if it’s a true aptasia eating peppermint shrimp is to lick it and if it tastes like a candy cane it’s the real deal. 😉
Haha you got me at first.

Since I had the privilege of talking to you on the phone the other day Kevin, my side still hurts from laughing. Talk about a morale boost.

(Oh and I watched that video BTW 🤣 😉)

Doing good . Had a blast yesterday at the beach .good company , good food , and got my tan .
I seen you, but just stayed away....lol kidding, live it up

I have 4 different type of peppermint from little ones to pinky size ones
How have they behaved for you? I had one bad experience, but would try them again out of desperation.

Lysmata boggessi is what I have as well.

A lot of people refer to wundermanni as "true Peppermint' but there are an over dozen species of Peppermint shrimp. Lysmata wundermanni, Lysmata boggessi, and Lysmata kukenthali are the only Peppermint shrimp that I know for sure may eat Aiptasia. Probably the best bet is ones that were tank raised on Aiptasia.
Mine came from Rod in Lakeland who had a tank of them and would feed them Aiptasia from another take to show you . I think the store was bargain world or something like that .

So there's "fake" Peppermint Shrimp that don't touch Aiptasia and then there's several varieties of "true" Peppermint Shrimp - some breeds are more likely to actually eat Aiptasia and leave your corals alone. All of them have the potential to eat fleshy corals - that is after all why they eat Aiptasia, some are just less likely than others.

Being honest, I've had better luck with Petco Peppermints than anywhere else - including Reef Cleaners "guaranteed" Peppermints.
Thank you! That is great advice Tim. I will go to Petco tomorrow. The crazy shrimp came from my lfs. Im not saying it wasn't a true peppermint, but it was definitely a maniac.

Were you acting like that perv in the corner lol !! 😆. I think everyone saw me . Usually will go away from everyone but yesterday we had some people come up and they were there first . So we stayed they near everyone . But it was fun 🤩

I appreciate the advice Tom. That's great stuff. Ill have to check the chart you sent and compare them to the ones at the LFS. You're right about the hammers. My last went went after them very hard, and I just added 5 hammers to the tank. How are the ones in your display behaving for you?
They're fine but I moved all of my LPS to a 40 Breeder I set up just so I could use shrimp. I have thousands of Aiptasia in the tank. There are only two Peppermints in the tank I know of for sure. They have cleaned the bottom two-thirds of one rock, and keep it clean. They also do a pretty good job in the sand around their cave and there are no Aiptasia inside their cave. But I have a lot more rocks.

ORA has tank-raised Lysmata boggessi.

I am the bold perv type, i will walk up and start a conversation about ....something

Quite a drive!
You’ll have to take a lot of water with you . Is it still desert where you are at ? . I remember living in Tucson for about 9 months and to go to the next town like Phoenix you’d have to go through the desert to get there . Heck I think Tucson was in the desert . No grass anywhere . A lot of tumble weed .

I live pretty much halfway between Tucson and Phoenix. All of southern Arizona, including Phoenix metro, is in the Sonoran desert. About the only place you see grass is on golf courses and in parks or HOAs.
