Turn off the circulation and either turn of or pick a time when the lights are off. Dump them into the display. Wait about 20 minutes turn pumps and if during on time the lights

Depends on what 'the amount' is. If you haven't used phyto before I would start with a smallish dose and wait a day or two to see how things go. Phyto is generally very safe to use but every tank is different and it could, but probably won't, cause a nutrient spike. I just dump it in, usually in the early morning before the lights come on. I don't turn anything off but I dump it through my feed cup so that it doesn't just float near the surface and go over the overflow.
