I've been fighting algae for my whole reef tank Career.

I think I told you - mine didn't go away until I found and removed the rusty magnet... Fighting algae without fixing the cause of the algae doesn't work long term. I'd be looking for rusty equipment or magnets that are always in the tank, looking for lights that are putting too much red, green, or white, or looking for sunlight hitting the tank.

As far as nutrients go, lots of people will say to stop feeding so heavily but if you have a good export and you decrease feeding, you can cause other problems. I've run at 75+ nitrates and 0.30 phosphates successfully with little to no algae except on the glass. When my nitrates or phosphates get low I start having issues. I know there are plenty of successful tanks running near 0 nitrates and phosphates, but it doesn't work for my tank.

Figure out where the algae is coming from and try to fix that. Adding more CUC will help temporarily but they're not a permanent or long term fix - most die pretty quickly in our tanks.

So sorry about your partner, I can’t imagine the pain it has caused you. I’m not on Facebook just instagram, a couple of us on here follow each other there. I was going through your tank thread and a lot of us were there with you from the beginning even our dear friend @ESABOE ( Jennifer who passed away this summer). Most of us go by first name and I think it’s obvious, I’m Kevin.

Ugh I’m saddened to hear about Jenn. She did give me advice along the way :(

Ya, it broke my heart. We FaceTimed the Wednesday before she died. There were a couple tears but mostly laughter. She got to meet my wife. I sent her a couple of text of encouragement and then I got a text from her phone on Monday, I was so excited but it was her daughter informing me that she had passed. :crying-face:

Like Tim said you have to eliminate the source of why your GHA is now become a forrest.
Try one thing at a time so you can surmise exactly what is causing it so it permanently stays away.
You cannot throw CUC at it until you know how to fix it.
For Tim it was a magnet, for me, a bad water source.
It can be different for everyone but you have to figure out what it is.
I CANNOT run my tank on super low nutrients.
It just doesn't work for me.
I've tried it to no avail so I just let it ride and do my maintenance when I need to.
